Association of the Year Nominees

Nominee Number

B1

How do they set themselves apart from other associations?

ASSOCIATION is a special part of the best small town in Minnesota….and it’s also the largest homeowner’s association in the state! The ASSOCIATION includes: 23 neighborhoods; 2,900 homes; 8,000 residents (a third of Chaska’s population); 19 tot lot playgrounds; 15 miles of paved walking trails; and covers approximately 2,200 acres. The ASSOCIATION is managed by Gassen Companies.

The ASSOCIATION has increased it’s PR for several community events by publishing an ASSOCIATION Neighbors Newsletter, which is distributed 3-4 times a year. In 2011 and 2012, they received Gold MarCom Awards for this publication. Postcards are also mailed to homeowners notifying them of each FREE Community event such as: ASSOCIATION’s Annual Festival of Garage Sales, The 4th of July Celebration, National Night Out Festivities, and Cocoa & Coasting Sledding Party. These events grow in popularity each year!

During the last year, the ASSOCIATION faced two litigations which proved to be a challenge on several levels; however, both settlements resulted in ASSOCIATION’s favor. Also, two special meetings were held to change ASSOCIATION’s bylaws. Due to an amazing ‘get out the vote’ effort by ASSOCIATION’s Board and several dedicated homeowners, those amendments passed by an overwhelming majority ensuring a stronger foundation and future for years to come.

Despite great legal and additional meeting costs, the Association did not have any special assessments. Instead, they also managed to replace three tot lots, plant 50 + boulevard trees, and several other landscaping updates. In 2012, it really did take a village and resulted in a very productive year!!
