CAI Offers Free Homeowner Education through the Community Association Volunteer Leadership Program. CAI offers a new series of webinars to make education more convenient for busy members like you. Additionally, two online resources are immediately accessible for CAI members: An Introduction to Community Association Living and The Fundamentals of Community Volunteer Leadership.

LEVEL 1: An Introduction to Community Association Living

A basic introduction for owners new to community association living, An Introduction to Community Association Living serves as both a stand alone reference guide on community associations. The guide focuses on the rights and responsibilities of a community association owner and introduces you to the roles and functions of community associations. Such functions include providing services, managing physical assets, and advocating for fellow owners. Participants and readers will learn about the key documents that govern community associations, the function of association boards, the purpose of committees, and the roles of both the community manager and staff. After attending this class or reading the guide, you will have a greater understanding of exactly how a community association works and how you can enjoy and benefit the most from community association living. Those who choose to attend the course have the opportunity to receive advice from industry professionals and to network locally.

LEVEL 2: The Fundamentals of Community Volunteer Leadership

This course focuses on the basic operation of a community association and the role of the volunteer leader. You will learn about the practical operational needs such as self-management, the bidding process for outside service providers, maintenance issues, accounting and legal services, and how to plan for and conduct board meetings. Once you have read An Introduction to Community Association Living, you may decide to become an active volunteer or board member in your community. The Fundamentals of Community Volunteer Leadership is free for CAI members only. Through this online course, you will learn about the basic operation of a community association as well as practical operational needs such as self-management, the bidding process for outside service providers, maintenance issues, accounting and legal services, and how to plan for and conduct board meetings. Upon completion of the course and its online evaluation, you will be issued a certificate recognizing that you have completed The Fundamentals of Community Volunteer Leadership.
